I kategorien balanse det funnet 72 artikler. Av disse er 34 artikler randomiserte kontrollerte studier, 3 ikke randomiserte kontrollerte studier, 11 studier med pre/post design, 11 case rapporter og 13 studier med andre design. Samlet antall deltakere er 1631 fordelt på 14 diagnoser.

Studiene støtter opp om hypotesen om at å benytte kommersielle dataspill til trening av balanse har like god eller bedre effekt som tradisjonell terapi.

Oppsummert sier studiene følgende:

  • Sammenlignet med ingen intervensjon gir trening med dataspill signifikant mer bedring
  • Sammenlignet med tradisjonell trening/terapi gir det minst like god effekt.
  • Dataspill er mest effektivt når det blir benyttet i tillegg til tradisjonell terapi for å øke intensiteten og mengden i treningen.
  • Dataspill er en effektiv og morsom måte å trene balanse på.
  • Det er viktig at man blir fulgt opp av terapeut for å se bedring og for videreutvikle treningsprogram med dataspill.
  • Det sees at trening med dataspill kan benyttes som en metode for å trene balanse.

2 artikler sier at det å benytte dataspill til trening av balanse ikke har noen effekt. Begge artiklene diskuterer mengden av trening de har gitt deltakerne og konkluderer med at metoden kan ha effekt ved større dose.

Det sees at kommersielle dataspill er trygge å benytte som trening. Det er en metode som er gjennomførbar som egentrening i hjemmet.

Det anbefales å benytte dataspill som alternativ til ingen behandling.
